Atlantic 10 Commissioner, Bernadette McGlade, was recently named Administrator of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA).

The annual award is presented by NACWAA members for significant contributions made as athletic administrators. McGlade, a native of Gloucester City and a former Gloucester Catholic basketball star, was one of eight honorees selected for their service during 2013-14.

Entering her seventh season as commissioner, McGlade, who starred on the hardwood at the University of North Carolina, will be honored with the others on Oct. 14 in Louisville, Ky., at the 2014 Administrator of the Year Luncheon in conjunction with the 35th Annual NACWAA National Convention.

“NACWAA is pleased to celebrate and honor these extraordinary women who are champions for their student-athletes, colleagues, institutions and conferences,” said Grace Calhoun, NACWAA awards committee chair, board of directors member and athletic director at the University of Pennsylvania. “Their commitment to student-athletes, their institutions and the advancement of women in our profession is inspiring and truly remarkable. We look forward to honoring these women for their outstanding service and leadership in Louisville.”

The A-10 saw 13 basketball teams earn postseason bids, including a record six men’s basketball teams making the NCAA Tournament. Also, in the spring, McGlade announced that the A-10 will continue to hold its men’s basketball championship at Barclays Center in 2015 and 2016. Extensions were also secured for 2019, 2020 and 2021.
The league has also gotten it done in the classroom. It currently ranks fifth among all conferences in the NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and fifth in the Academic Progress Rate (APR). The A-10 had 58 of its teams earn national recognition from the NCAA in the APR.
